Prof. Dr. Maged El Ansary is one of the pioneers in establishing the concept of pain and palliative care medicine in Egypt, Africa and Middle East.

He is Emeritus Prof. of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Al-Azhar University, Egypt

His carrier extended more than 50 years since 1969 to date

He worked for International Association for the Study of Pain as council member 2008-2014 for developing countries (Africa, Asia and South America).

He established the following:

• Avicenna Pain Relief unit at Al - Azhar university
• Egyptian Pain Society for Management of Pain,
• The Egyptian Society for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine
• African Association for the Study of Pain,
• The Arab Union for Management of Pain,
• Council member for African Palliative Care Association for North Africa.
• The Pain societies in Algeria, Libya, Jordan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia Iraq, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
• He established the academic degrees for Master and MD in pain and palliative care since 1990.
• He applied the WHO analgesic ladder for management of cancer pain since 1987 to date.
